1. Scope
This policy describes privacy practices for TrashScam, an app developed and operated by Tool Lumin Labs LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”). It also explains certain related support and alert-service interactions. Our general website has a separate website privacy notice.
2. Information processed and how it is used
Scam-check content
In the documented beta, text, photos, screenshots, and user-shared items submitted for scam checking are processed locally on the device using bundled rules and Apple on-device text recognition. These inputs are used to present warning signs and suggested next steps. They are not uploaded to a TrashScam analysis server or saved into a history of the original content by the beta's core checker.
Learning activity and settings
Learning progress, crossword activity, and accessibility/preferences settings are stored on your device for the app experience. The documented beta does not transmit learning progress to a TrashScam service.
Alert updates
The app can access a separately hosted feed of curated official-source scam alerts when enabled and available. A request to an alert service may expose technical connection information, such as an Internet Protocol (IP) address and request metadata, to the service provider through routine server operations. Alert information may be cached on the device. The final service deployment and its log retention must be reviewed before release.
Support communications
If you email us, we receive the address you email from and whatever information you choose to provide. We use it to respond, troubleshoot, and handle your request. Please do not send passwords, banking details, security codes, or unnecessary sensitive information.
3. Device permissions and local processing
Camera access is requested only when you choose to take a photo. Photo selection uses Apple's selected-photo picker rather than requesting access to your entire library. If you choose to use approximate-area filtering, the documented beta requests location on demand, derives a coarse area on device, and does not transmit precise coordinates to TrashScam. You can instead choose a state manually. Permissions can be managed in iOS or iPadOS Settings.
4. Sharing and external websites
TrashScam includes an optional “Ask someone you trust” flow using Apple's system sharing interface. It shares a summary by default; sharing original content requires an additional intentional choice. The recipient and external app you select will handle anything you share under their own privacy practices. TrashScam also links to government and consumer-protection websites when you choose to open them. Those sites have their own policies.
5. Storage, retention, and choices
Learning progress and preferences in the documented beta remain on the device unless you reset them or remove the app. Temporary items passed from another app through the Share Extension are deleted after import and subject to a 48-hour expiration in the documented beta. If you contact support, we retain correspondence only as reasonably needed to address the issue, maintain security, or meet applicable legal obligations. To ask about personal information you provided directly to us, email the support address below.
The documented beta does not require a TrashScam user account. If a future version adds accounts, subscriptions, remote analysis, or other data processing, this policy and the App Store privacy declarations must be updated before those features are released.
6. Children
TrashScam is a general scam-awareness tool and is not designed to solicit personal information from children. Parents and guardians should supervise minors using scam-safety tools and avoid sharing sensitive content with support.
7. Updates and contact
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the product or applicable requirements. We will post the revised date on this page. For privacy requests or questions, contact operations@tooluminlabs.com (please avoid including sensitive information in email requests).
